How do I find out whether my phone line is digital or analog?
Analog lines, also referred to as POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service), support standard phones, fax machines, and modems. These are the lines typically found in residential homes.
Digital lines are found in large corporate phone systems (PBX). Usually you need to dial a “9″ for outside line. Your modem is not going to work with a digital line. However, the good news is these PBX boxes usually support analog line also. If you have a fax machine in the office, it must be using an analog line.
Look at the back of the telephone that is connected to the phone line. If you see “complies with part 68, FCC Rules” and a Ringer Equivalence Number (REN), then the phone and the line are analog.
