Gateway Tutorial: VXML Application | Email Manager Servlet

This is the Java class to handle email functions, such as sending or receiving emails. As we seen in previous sections, it also starts and stops the email alert thread.

  • EmailManager is a singleton class, which means there is only one instance of the class.

The class VxApp is an Voicent specific class that is available for all Voicent web applications. A Voicent web application, such as the EmailToPhone application, is any application that is installed on the embedded Tomcat web server of Voicent Gateway. VxApp class provides information about the running gateway instance, such as number of phone lines, valid web sessions, etc.

The init() method of the class reads the settings from the emailsetup.conf file.

  • Email session is started by calling startSession() method

    This method supports Socks access, secure email session through SSL. For details of SSL access, please see JavaMail SSL support.

    openStore()
    simply login the email account and start the read session. Other methods that related to read session are closeStore(), read(), and delete().
     

  • To send an email, use the send() method

    This is pretty standard JavaMail code for sending an email. This method supports one file attachment. It should be easy to extend this method to add more file attachment.

     

  • The alert thread is used to send alert telephone calls. It is implemented as AlertThread class

    This thread reads the current email inbox and then checks the alert criteria, if it matches, then calls makeAlertCall() to make a telephone call.

    It simply sends Voicent Gateway a call request and have the gateway takes care of the rest. The parameters for the call request is defined in Voicent gateway reference under the developer section online.

    When Voicent Gateway starts the call, it refers to the starturl for the phone interaction application. The /email/email_alert defined here is referring to the EmailAlertServlet.
