Skype has VoIP-based video app for iPads

Skype has launched a VoIP-based video-calling app for iPads.

The app is available in the Apple App Store.

“Skype for iPad gives Skype users the best of both worlds for video calling: the large screen and display of a personal computer, but the portability of a mobile phone. We’ve taken advantage of
the iPad’s large screen and optimized the user experience along with making it easier than ever to navigate through the new intuitive interface,” said Neil Stevens, Skype’s vice president and general manager for product and marketing.

The application enables users to make and receive free Skype-to-Skype calls over WiFi or 3G and offers video calls “that deliver up to VGA quality video (640×480) at 15 frames per second,” Stevens said.
The app can also be used to send instant messages or SMS text messages.
