Can I transfer a license or replace a lost license?

Yes, if you have a supported release. Our currently supported release is release 8.

We cannot transfer or replace older or obsolete releases. We normally support a release for 2-3 years. For example, release 7 has been on the market since 2009 and was obsolete in Feb, 2012. See the What do I do if I have an obsolete version FAQ below.

The steps to transfer license:

  • 1) Pay the license transfer or replace processing fee of $99 for release 8.
    For obsolete release 7 and earlier releases, please purchase a product upgrade here.
  • 2) After you purchase the license upgrade or transfer, download and install the Voicent software.
  • 3) Select Help > Request Product License from the program main menu. Enter the order number you received by email in step 1 or 2 and submit the license request. The new license will be emailed to you promptly.

How does Voicent license work?

The Voicent license key is tied to your computer's network adapter card. Do not remove from your computer the network card that is used by the Voicent license. It is OK to have multiple network cards on the computer. That will not affect your Voicent license.

The Voicent license key will only work on the specific computer for which you have requested the license. It will not work on any other computer. The license key is permanently linked to a unique Voicent Gateway ID number generated on the computer for which the license was requested.

After you have installed and tested Voicent software, you can get your license by submitting your license request from Voicent Gateway main menu > Help > Request Product License. Please make sure the computer from which you apply for the license is the same computer you are going to use for the Voicent program. The license key will be emailed to you promptly.

Do I need to get a new license when I upgrade my Voicent software?

If your license key was issued within a current support period, then you can upgrade the software. If the major release is the same, the key is the same. If the major release is newer, you can get a new license key.

Every new purchase comes with 6 months of free email support and maintenance. Within the support period, you can upgrade to any new release. After the 6-month period, you have a choice of either continuing support or not. If the support is expired on your license key, you can still use the software. However, you won't be able to upgrade the software. Normally, continuing the support is considerably cheaper than purchasing new product versions later.

Do I need to get a new license if I reformat my drive or reinstall my OS?

For newer releases, no. Your license key should continue to work even if you re-install the software, reformat the disk, or re-install your Windows Operating System.

If you change hardware on your computer, you may need to request a new license key at no charge.

For discontinued releases, we are not able to issue replacement licenses, nor provide support. It is impractical for software companies to indefinitely support old releases because of the changing requirements of new hardware and operating systems. We price our products with the understanding that they must be highly affordable so that users can afford to regularly upgrade them or purchase new versions to take advantage of innovations in our software, as well as in the latest hardware and operating systems. Because Voicent licensing is only a one-time purchase, we can offer free support only for current product releases. What should I do if I change my computer configuration such as adding memory, change network card, change my computer name?

If you change your network card, your license will no longer be valid because the license is tied to the network card. For currently supported releases, refer to the Can I transfer a license or replace a lost license FAQ above.

For other hardware changes, you need a new license. You can get a replacement license if the network card is the same and you have the supported release.

How do I receive my license?

If you have purchased the product, you can request the product license to convert the shareware version to the full version. To do so, open the program, click on Help > Request Product License from the program main menu. You will receive the license by an email. The email also contains instructions on how to install your license.

What do I do if I have an obsolete release?

Our License Team works diligently to support and maintain your product licenses as a service. Because your license is only a one-time purchase, we can only provide free support within a specified period of time. When a product becomes outdated, we have no choice but to bring out new, innovative versions to keep up with changing hardware and operating system requirements. Voicent does not provide unlimited free support to an obsolete product.
