Juniper: 130 million on mobile VoIP by 2016

Some 130 million people will be using mobile VoIP solutions across the globe by 2016, according to a study by Juniper Research.

The research company said a number of key service providers have improved their products over the last 18 months, contributing to the high usage forecast.

Juniper also noted that the popularity and simplicity of downloading applications that add features to smartphones also aided the development.

Anthony Cox, associate analyst at Juniper Research, said: “However, the report also finds that lack of a standardised approach and the absence of a clear route to monetise new IP-based mobile video calling services may hold back mobile video calling.”

Despite this, Juniper also predicted that the revenue raised through the circuit switched voice market will continue to fall over the next five years.
