Is the end of metered cellphone calls near?

The release, titled “Qualcomm Chipset Powers First Successful VoIP-over-LTE Call with Single Radio Voice Call Continuity,” represents a breakthrough of near-epic proportions, according to Voxilla.com.

The Voxilla article suggests that the subject of the Qualcomm press release (the MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 chip, which the company plans to introduce at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona later this month), provides the technical ability for mobile carriers to fully benefit from VoIP networks.

The new chip does this, Voxilla wryly says, “Not a $0.45 minute too soon.”
