VoIP is greener, as well as cheaper

Everyone hears a lot about the money that VoIP phone systems can save, but you typically don’t hear much about the technology’s green benefits.

BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT, has an item on its blog that points out an interesting and highly green aspect of VoIP growth.

Quoting Jon Knight, of the British audio-visual integration company Smarter Interactive, the blog notes that the economic slowdown and the increasing speed of available broadband connections around the world, is making video-conferencing an ideal way to save money and reduce energy usage.

As a result, Knight says, video-conferencing is growing at a phenomenal rate.

In his own country, that growth is especially likely to continue.

The United Kingdom is spending more than $500,000 Euros to make its broadband network the fastest in Europe by 2015.
