Gateway Speech Engine Installation

Question:

I get this message: Voicent Gateway Speech Engine has encountered a problem and needs to close.

1). Operating system must be Windows 2K/XP or later

2). The locale setting must be US, English language

3). Check your installation. You can certainly do a clean reinstall.

4). Take a look at the log file under:

C:\Program Files\Voicent\Gateway\logs\output.log

and if you see: m_pRecognizer->CreateRecoContext(&m_pRecoCtxt) failed

in the log file, then there is something to do with the Microsoft Speech engine installation.

5). Go to Windows Control Panel, select the Speech tab. Under the Speech Recognition tab, please make sure “Microsoft Speech Recognizer v5.1″ is installed and selected. If you see “Microsoft Speech Recognizer v6.1″ or other versions, you might have a conflict on these speech engines. Try to uninstall other speech recognizers.

Usually these speech engines are installed with other software product. One usual candidate is the Microsoft Office Suite (Office 2003, for example). If this is the case, try to uninstall the Microsoft Office. Then re-installed Office without the Speech components.
