Long delay when using Skype and Pemela

When I use BroadcastByPhone autodialer to call, I said “hello”, but there is a long delay (almost 8 seconds) before the message is played. This problem only happens when I use Skype. It does not happen when I use a voice modem

There are two possible problem that might cause this. One is that the phone line is not clear (Skype or modem), the other is that your computer is too slow (more so for Skype than modem). If the phone line is not clear, please make sure you have enough internet connection bandwidth.

It seems the problem is related to a voice recording feature called Pamela in SKYPE. That slows the system down significantly. As soon as Pamela is turned off, Voicent works fine. In fact, with SKYPE, the response time is shorter than a voice modem, which is only 1-2 second delay.

Thank you for letting us know.

Gateway icon and multiple logins

The Gateway icon is missing from the system tray. This only seems to happen when I log out and then log back into the system. The processes and service are running but no icon. Also when this happens, I try to create audio text to speech files and
and nothing happens because the gateway does not appear to be running. If I completely reboot the system, the icon appears when I log in the first time. This was first noticed when using RDP to connect to the system running the gateway but occur when using the system locally. The service log was cleared to make sure you get the messages that are logged when this happens. No other log files were cleared and the original service.log file does still exist if you need it.

This is acutally a Windows “feature”. Please see the answer to the previous posting.

Running appointment reminder for multiple users

I am contacting you on behalf of Primary Children’s Medical Center. We purchased the auto dialer program and have downloaded the software. We work in a Microsoft managed environment (SMS) and have multiple users logging into one computer, each with their own profile on the PC. We are using Voicent for our nurse staffing department to call in nurses to fill in shifts, and this department runs 24/7 with multiple individuals needing to activate the program.

Unfortunately, the issue we have run across is that anyone that logs in, other than the original person who was signed in when we downloaded the program and the gateway, does not have access to the gateway. It simply doesn’t show.

We have given full permissions to the program through the security profile in program files profile. Each user can access and view and function in the auto dialer software, but the gateway doesn’t launch and cannot be found.

I am hoping you may give us some tips on how to progress.

What you describe is correct. The technical reason is that Voicent Gateway is running as a Windows service, they start before anyone is logged on. All Windows service programs are running on session 0, which can be accessed only by the user who login first. This limitation is set by Windows, not Voicent.

Under Windows Vista, even the first login user cannot see anything on session 0. So if you are running release 5 on Windows Vista, nobody can see Voicent Gateway icon.

This problem is solved in our 6.x release. We have restructure the program such that every user can access the gateway. So if you have the annual maintenance contract, you have the free upgrade to release 6.

By the way, release 6 also supports Skype.

I just wanted to clarify with regard to your response, will we have the same issue with the Windows “feature” in XP, not just Vista (we are on XP)?

Yes, XP will have the same issue, except for the first user login.
