Proxy Server: Voicent Gateway returned error status 502

If you are getting the “Gateway returned error status 502″ when starting BroadcastByPhone or AutoReminder, you’ll need to check your proxy server settings for your Internet connections.

(This paragraph gets a little technical. Skip it if you get totally confused.) The reason is that Voicent Gateway and its applications communicate through the HTTP protocol. The HTTP protocol is the web standard that is used by your browser, for example. If your computer is behind a corporate firewall, and all web access is through a web proxy server, then all your web address resolution is through the proxy server, and all web surfing traffic is going through that proxy server too. If the proxy settings does not bypass local addresses, i.e., your current host and hosts on your local area network, then your web address resolutions might not work if the proxy server is not configured correctly.

To fix the problem, you will need correct the proxy settings for your computer. Open your Internet Explorer, select Tools > Internet Options… from the main menu. Please do the following:

  • Select the “Connections” tab
  • Click on “LAN Settings” or “Settings” button according to your current Internet connection used
  • If the proxy server is NOT enabled, then don’t do anything. The problem is somewhere else. If it is enabled, check the box marked as “Bypass proxy server for local addresses”. Click OK
  • Click OK on the Internet Options dialog

Starting from release 3.2, Voicent Gateway will try to detect your proxy settings during startup. If it finds the problem, it displays a warning message on your screen.

AutoReminder: Integration with other appointment software

One common question asked from our AutoReminder customers is this: Can it be used with their existing scheduling or billing software. The answer is definite YES.

You have three options:

(1). Export Appointments from your other software product. The format of the file must conform to the required AutoReminder format. Please refer to Import Appointments.

(2). If your software product cannot produce the file format required by AutoReminder, you will need a conversion program. Voicent can create a customized program for you. Please contact our sales for a quote.

(3). If you are a developer, or have access to IT support, you can use more advanced integration methods, such as HTTP interface and command line interface. By using these methods, you can directly control AutoReminder such that appointments are added to AutoReminder automatically. This approach can eliminate the manual import and export process. However, it requires some development work. You can contact your software vendor or us for such services. For more details, please take a look at HTTP interface and Command line interface

Voice Modem

A voice modem is device capable of playing and recording audio over a telephone line. Modems are originally made for data or fax communications. These modems cannot be used with Voicent software. A voice modem is usually marked as Data/Fax/Voice modem.

Please note that supporting V.90 or V.92 data transmission standards does not imply your modem is voice capable. A good indication of voice capability is the inclusion of voice mail software in the modem package.

If you receive an error message “Fail to detect a voice capable modem” during installation or during Voicent Gateway startup, your computer does not have a voice modem. Without a voice modem, Voicent software cannot continue.
