Use Vonage Softphone

I have a Voicent 4 line BBP system and I am going to use Vonage as the telephone service provider. Vonage tells me I must use their softphone service to make calls from my computer. Is this true? Do I need to use a modem or not?

For Vonage, you must use its software phone to make calls from your computer. They charge for the softphone and it is not open to other software products – meaning we have no way to control it like Skype. Vonage might open up its SIP credential so other software can use its service. But until then, Voicent software cannot use Vonage VOIP service directly.

In order to use Vonage today with Voicent, you must use Vonage router/phone adapter for the phone call. You must connect a voice modem to the adapter, one for each line.

You might want to look into other VOIP service providers. Most other VOIP providers (other than Skype and Vonage) support SIP, which is a VOIP standard. With SIP based VOIP service, you can use Voicent software directly without voice modem.

What Voip Service do you recommend for use with my 4 line BBP system?

We have not collected enough feedback from our customers yet. Once we have it, we’ll publish the list. For now, you can google “sip trunk” or “voip service” to find a service that can serve you best. If you like the service, please let us know also.
