What an Auto Dialer Is

Now have you ever wonder what the difference between an auto dialer and a predictive dialer? Can’t keep your automated calls and your outbound IVRs straight?  A lot of businessmen especially new to entrepreneurship got confused with the two.

If you search on google you will find “auto dialer” as;  “a software that automatically dials telephone numbers”, “configured to leave messages for people on answering machines, receive recorded responses or dial telephone numbers for an operator”.  But in general auto dialers are extensively used in telemarketing and customer support.

There are a lot of terms and ideas being brought up on the internet. About the only thing they all have in common is that they involve automatically dialing a list of phone numbers from a given database. Software at Voicent, BroadcastByPhone is an auto-dialer that uses your computer to deliver personal calls or leave answering machine messages in your own voice or a computer-generated voice.

If you think auto dialer is inexplicit, tenuous phrase relating to anything that has something to do about automatically dialing phone number, then what are good examples of auto dialer to define it? One good thing is “Voice broadcasting”.  In Voicent, voice broadcasting is one feature in which a pre-recorded message is played when somebody answers the phone or left with an answering machine.  You can transfer, leave a message or confirm with Voicent BroadcastByPhone.  Voice broadcasting messages are sometimes called robo calls. Here in Voicent you can easily broadcast a message with a “press 1”. They are more what is called a robo surveys. Such gathering of information from pressing keys or buttons is called Interactive Voice Respone or IVR.

Voicent BroadcastByPhone uses the term “auto dialer” for live call transfer to any phone.  If you are thinking about your message recipients wanted to speak to specific someone immediately, then you are right!  You can press a number and get transferred to a live operator or leave a message for you with it interactive touch tone responses (pressing 1, 2 …) or even in voice activated command or response capabilities.

Another term that confuses with auto dialer is “predictive dialer” a most common term used for live phone calls.  A more distinct definition for it is that a predictive dialer uses treal-time analysis to conclude the best time to make calls.

Summary

  • Auto dialer: software that automatically dials phone numbers from a database
  • Voice broadcasting: when somebody answers, play a message
  • Predictive dialer: when somebody responses, associate them to a live person, and use real-time analysis to determine when to dial again

This is not an exhaustive list, but it touches on some of the most common terms and hopefully provides some clarification.
